Growth kinetics for the II-VI compound crystals has been developed on the basis of the mechanism that the growth proceeds via three steps: vaporization of the source material, diffusion of the vaporized species, and condensation onto the crystal surface. The theoretical formulas thus obtained have quantitatively well reproduced the experimental. The conventional plasma etch processes are not suitable for II–VI compounds. This study describes the systematic development of a novel process for plasma etching of the II–VI compounds ZnSe and ZnTe with CH 4 /H 2 mixtures in a secondary afterglow plasma using the response surface methodology. The etching process was optimized for obtaining submicrometer structures using thin photomasks.

Adducts such as Me 2 ZnNEt 3 have been used successfully to eliminate the formerly severe problem of pre-reaction during the growth of ZnSe and ZnS.

Three crystal structures dominate in II-VI compounds: the zincblende and wurtzite structures already mentioned for III-V compounds in chapter 2, and the NaCl (rocksalt) structure.
A fourth structure occurring in II-VI compounds is the cinnabar lattice. Abstract In this introductory chapter, an overview of the properties and applications of the II-VI binary and ternary compounds is given with more focusing on the use of these compounds in solar.
II-VI group semiconductor is made by II group elements and VI group elements. Magnesium, Zinc, Cadmium and Hydrargyrum from II group and,Oxygen,Sulfur,Tellurium and Selenium from VI group are popularly used elements. Compounds combined by these elements such as ZnO,CdTe,ZnSe and ZnS.

Marple, and H. Woodbury, General Electric Co., Schenectady, N. Y., AFML-TR–17; AD (March ), pp. Google Scholar. II–VI semiconductors such as ZnS, CdS, and CdTe are a special class of materials with properties in between those of insulators and conductors, comprising elements of Groups II and VI of the Periodic Table, among which zinc oxide (ZnO) is an important II–VI semiconductor material that has been used in a wide range of applications.
